On May 24 – 26th Pemberton will see the return of the fourth running of Killarnée Targa South West.

Previous year’s running of this event has been overwhelmingly popular with the locals and tourists, and driver registrations have filled very quickly each year, proving the demand for the event.

The event is designed to be a fun weekend away for the vehicle crews and their teams, and also allows more race time practice for drivers in the lead up to Quit Targa West 2013. As for the spectators, they are able to get up close and personal with the race, in particular the road race through the township of Pemberton on the Sunday morning.

This is a vibrant and exciting day in the town, with local roads cordoned off, safety barriers put into place and residents gathering on their front lawns to watch the racing cars zoom past their homes. There are many key locations to view the Sunday morning event throughout the town for those who don’t happen to have a home en-route.

Volunteers in the area are called on in order to provide the smooth and safe operation of the event, and also give an increased opportunity for involvement from race enthusiasts in the community.

The Charity Hill Climb is held on the Friday afternoon before the main rally on Saturday, and spectators are given the exciting opportunity of donning the safety gear and racing up Pumphill Road in one of the race cars and their experienced drivers. This event helps to raise money for the Pemberton “help a mate” charity program.

As news of the exciting events spreads it has become increasingly difficult to book accommodation in the Pemberton region over this weekend – so while you might find a few spaces left around town, for many accommodation operators it’s been full house for some time already. So, if you can’t make it this year, be sure to book early for the 2014 event which is also scheduled for a weekend in May.
